UPPSC PCS Exam Pattern 2021 – Prelims & Mains
Prelims Exam Pattern
- For Preliminary (written) Exam consists of 2 papers. General Studies I, General Studies II.
- Objective type (MCQs). Paper 1 consists of 150 questions and Paper 2 consists of 100 questions.
- Both Paper 1 and Paper 2 will be of 200 marks.
- Paper-II of the Preliminary Examination will be a qualifying paper with a minimum qualifying mark fixed at 33%.
- In the UPPSC Prelims Exam, there will be a 0.33% negative marking for every incorrect answer.
- It is mandatory for the Candidates to appear in both the papers of the Preliminary Examination for the purpose of evaluation.

Mains Exam Pattern
- For Main (written) Exam consists of 8 Papers. General Hindi, Essay, General Studies-I, General Studies-II, General Studies-III, General Studies-IV, Paper 1: Optional Subject, Paper 2: Optional Subject.
- Candidates have to select only one optional subject (2 papers) from the given list.
- Timing of examination paper of 3 hours i.e. 9.30 am to 12.30 pm & 2 pm to 5 pm. A candidate shall be required to obtain such minimum marks in the compulsory paper of General Hindi, as may be determined by the Government or the Commission, as the case may be.
- There shall be Two sections in all the question papers of Optional subject and each section will include Four questions. Candidates are required to answer only Five questions while they must select a minimum of Two questions from each section.
