CDS Syllabus 2023: The Combined Defence Services (CDS) examination is a prestigious exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for the selection of eligible male and female candidates for admission to the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Officers Training Academy (OTA), Indian Naval Academy (INA), and Air Force Academy (AFA). CDS Syllabus 2023

The CDS syllabus 2023 is divided into three sections: English, General Knowledge, and Elementary Mathematics. The standard of the papers in elementary mathematics will be of matriculation level. The standard of papers in other subjects will approximately be such as may be expected of a graduate of an Indian University.

English: The English paper is designed to test the candidate’s comprehension skills and understanding of the language. The topics covered in this paper include:

  • Reading Comprehension
  • Jumbled Sentences
  • Error Spotting
  • Fill in the Blanks
  • Synonyms and Antonyms
  • Sentence Improvement
  • Ordering of Words in a Sentence
  • Idioms and Phrases

General Knowledge: The General Knowledge paper is designed to test the candidate’s knowledge of current events, history, geography, and other topics of relevance. The topics covered in this paper include:

  • History of India
  • Geography of India and the World
  • Indian Polity
  • Indian Economy

Elementary Mathematics: The Elementary Mathematics paper is designed to test the candidate’s mathematical abilities. The topics covered in this paper include:

CDS Exam Pattern

The CDS exam pattern consists of objective-type questions only. The question papers on General Knowledge and elementary mathematics will be set bilingually (in Hindi and English). In question papers, wherever necessary, questions involving the metric system of weights and measures only will be set.

The CDS exam pattern for 2023 is as follows:

English: 120 questions, 100 marks
– General Knowledge: 120 questions, 100 marks
– Elementary Mathematics: 100 questions, 100 marks

The total duration of the exam is 6 hours, with a break of 2 hours between the General Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics papers.
