Europa League: Manchester United own goals leave Sevilla quarter-final finely balanced. Late own goals leave Manchester United with work to do in the Europa League quarter-final. In the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie against Sevilla, Manchester United was left with work to do as they drew 2-2 at Old Trafford. The game appeared to be going well for United, with two early goals from Marcel Sabitzer, but injuries to Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez proved costly as two late own goals from Tyrell Malacia and Harry Maguire allowed Sevilla to salvage a draw.

Despite missing 28-goal top scorer Marcus Rashford due to injury, United looked comfortable before half-time with Sabitzer’s two goals. Anthony Martial’s return from injury was a boost for United, and his hold-up play helped to set up Fernandes for the first goal.

However, Sevilla briefly threatened in the second half and United missed chances to extend their lead, with Antony hitting the post and Malacia wasting a good opportunity. With Fernandes and Martial substituted, Sevilla took advantage and scored two late goals through deflections off United players.

The draw leaves everything open for the second leg on April 20, but United will have to cope without Fernandes due to a suspension. Sevilla, who are currently battling relegation in La Liga, showed some fighting spirit and will be looking to cause an upset in the second leg.
