Sony’s PS 5 Pro: possibly arriving later this year for the holiday season, is reportedly in development under the codename “Project Trinity.” According to information obtained by YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead from internal documents, the PS5 Pro could potentially hit the market by the end of the year.

Reported by Insider Gaming, leaked documents reveal significant upgrades for the PS5 Pro, codenamed ‘Trinity.’ These upgrades include a GPU rendering performance up to 45% faster than the current PS5, 2-3 times improved ray-tracing capabilities (potentially up to 4 times in certain cases), and a computing power of 33.5 teraflops. Additionally, the console will introduce PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution Upscaling), a proprietary upscaling and anti-aliasing solution, with support for resolutions up to 8K in future SDK versions.

Reports suggest that Sony’s first-party studios have been testing PS5 Pro dev kits since September, with access granted to third-party developers in January. Test kits identical to the final product are expected to be available by Spring 2024, aligning with previous reports indicating a holiday season 2024 release. However, the release date may be subject to change due to the lack of first-party games released on the PlayStation 5 this year.

The PS5 Pro aims to deliver improved and consistent FPS at 4K resolution, introduces a new ‘performance mode’ for 8K resolution, and promises accelerated ray tracing. The console is expected to feature 30 WGP and 18000mts memory.

Furthermore, leaked documents detail the PS5 Pro’s custom machine learning architecture, boasting an AI Accelerator supporting 300 TOPS of 8-bit computation and 67 TFLOPS of 16-bit floating-point performance.

Analysts suggest that Sony’s struggling PS5 sales over the past years may prompt the release of the “Pro” models to boost growth. Sony tentatively targets a holiday 2024 release for the PS5 Pro.
